Events
Here are the current events and projects I am facilitating at Franklin Middle School and the surrounding community where my students live. I pride myself in providing as many opportunities for my students to acquire real world experiences while applying their artistic talents, especially on the Northside.
My visual and media art students have been working hard to design and create an Immersive Experience at Franklin Middle School in honor of Latine Heritage Month and Dia de Los Muertos. My 6th graders will be contributing to the community ofrenda with their ceramic hand built pieces like luminaries, offering plates and maracas. Inspired by the sculptures on Raspberry Island in St. Paul, my 7th graders are working in teams to create large-scale alebrije sculptures with paper mache. My 8th graders will also be working with paper mache to create large Mexican inspired masks they will wear during a dance performance in the auditorium. Finally, my media arts students have been using their iPads to create an animation inspired by a Latin American country. The animations will be projected in a space that creates not only an immersive experience but one that seems to go on to infinity.

A few of our 2024/25 8th graders were pop-up artists or assistants during this summer event! A few Franklin and MPS staff also volunteered to help as well. It was a very hot day but we all had so much fun!
